HOME ICE COMPANY
When we began this venture we wanted to revive an older brand that dated back to the glory days of ice when homes had ice boxes instead of electric freezers, and the ice was primarily manufactured in factories, if not harvested from lakes in the north. We spent days going through books and microfilm in the Julia Ideson historic library in downtown Houston to find a Houston brand most worthy of a revival, and ultimately decided on Home Ice Company, established in 1902. We admit our choice was influenced by the classic picture of “Ice Man” (pictured here), an employee of Home Ice Company, taken in the 1930s here in Houston. The home on our logo is the childhood home of John Sr., built in 1926.
The last location to carry the Home Ice Company name closed in 2014 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. We revived the name in 2019.
